The moment

No mine or quarry in the country can legally run without a federal mine ID, and every opening, takeover and restart gets filed. A new ID is a business about to start that hasn't picked its equipment. A new controlling company means a new person deciding who supplies the pit. A restart means a crew back on site and a plant that's been sitting.

The Bench tracks all three filings and adds the crew size and hours each operator reported for its last quarter.

Who it's for

  • Crushing, screening and conveyor dealers
  • Wear parts, screen media and belting suppliers
  • Haul truck, loader and excavator dealers
  • Drilling and blasting contractors
  • Surety bond agents and mine insurance brokers
  • Safety trainers
  • Scale house and ticketing vendors

What you get

  • Pits that filed as new, changed hands or restarted in your window
  • Who each pit was taken over from
  • Crew size and hours from the last filed quarter
  • The address of record and the title of the contact on file
  • Large multi-mine controllers and public agencies set aside

The outcome

Your crusher and screen reps reach a new controller in its first quarter, when new management re-specifies the plant. Your safety trainers call the restarts before the crew's back to full hours.

Questions buyers ask

What counts as a takeover?
It's any pit where the controlling company changed in the window. We name who it was taken over from, so you know what changed hands.
Are the crew numbers current?
They're from the operator's last filed quarter, which can run a quarter behind. The list says which quarter.
Does it include sand and gravel?
Yes, along with stone, coal and metal. Coal is the only one that reports tons, so the others show hours worked instead, and we never estimate tons for them.
